WHY NOW ?

Biodiversity Crisis:

Earth is home to an estimated 8.7 million species, but we are losing them at an unprecedented rate. Scientists estimate that up to 1 million species are now threatened with extinction.
Human Dominance:

Humans comprise only 0.01% of all life on Earth, yet we have caused the loss of 83% of all wild mammals and half of all plants.
Resource Depletion:

We are consuming resources at a rate 1.75 times faster than the planet can regenerate them. This unsustainable consumption is leading to deforestation, water scarcity, and soil degradation. About 2 billion people lack access to safe drinking water.

IPCC Report:

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warns that we have a rapidly closing window to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels and avoid catastrophic consequences.
Extreme Weather Events:

Climate change is intensifying extreme weather events such as heatwaves, droughts, floods, and wildfires, causing widespread devastation and loss of life.
Ocean Acidification:

The absorption of excess carbon dioxide by the oceans is causing them to become more acidic, threatening marine ecosystems and fisheries.

An estimated 8 million metric tons of plastic end up in the oceans each year, toxic chemicals are contaminating our air and water, and air pollution is causing millions of premature deaths annually.

We're losing 18.7 million acres of forests annually – an area about the size of Panama.
Biodiversity Loss:

Extinction rates estimated to be 1,000 times higher than natural background rates.

Tipping Points:

Scientists have identified several climate tipping points, such as the melting of ice sheets and permafrost, that could trigger irreversible and accelerating changes with devastating consequences.
Carbon Budget:

To limit global warming to 1.5°C (the internationally agreed target), we have a limited carbon budget remaining. At current emission rates, this budget will be exhausted within the next decade.
